Sports Medicine is a field of medicine that applies directly to sport-related injuries. Sports Medicine physicians have additional training and certification. This is often paired with personal experience in athletics. As a result Sports Medicine physicians hold specific knowledge of the physical requirements of sport, functional testing, return to sport training, and athletic first aid.

Common sports-related injuries addressed include: strains, sprains, cartilage problems, ligament tears, dislocations, and fractures.
